About College

Education is an instrument that man has devised for his own progress. Through education a person acquires civilization of the present and makes the civilization of the future. Methodist Girls Degree College, a minority institution recognized by the National Commission, Govt. of India, was established in the year 2002. It is located on NH-58, in the heart of the city, Roorkee, 1 km from bus stand and 3 km from railway station.

The college is governed by its Management Committee and is also under the “Roorkee Methodist Education Trust” with its headquarters at Bombay. The basic aim of the Methodist Society in India, is to provide Higher education for the Society and women. By keeping this objective in mind, the motto is — “LEARN TO SERVE”.

The college is recognized by the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna University (A Central University) Srinagar, Uttarakhand and Sri Dev Suman University, Badshahithaul, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. The college has well qualified faculty as per guidelines of the affiliating university and are devotional and punctual in performing their duties.

History

In the year 2002, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) course was started with seven subjects - Hindi, English, History, Political Science, Home Science, Economics, Sociology, under the affiliation of H.N.B. Garhwal University, Srinagar.

In the year 2005, Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) course was started under the affiliation of H.N.B. Garhwal University, Srinagar.

The college was further upgraded in the year 2010 with the introduction of Masters of Commerce and Master of Arts in three streams – Hindi, English, and Home Science in the year 2012.

In 2013, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) with two streams: Physics, Chemistry, Maths (PCM) and Chemistry, Biology and Zoology (CBZ) courses were started under the affiliation of Sri Dev Suman University, Uttarakhand.

From 2018, Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Chemistry and Mathematics were started under the affiliation of Sri Dev Suman University, Uttarakhand.

Vision

Education has been a central part of Methodist Girls Degree College, Roorkee. Methodist believes in transforming the lives of individuals by educating them about the importance of moral values and vocation and not just personal values. Education should never be confined to utilitarian purpose. It should be about the acquisition of wisdom so that individuals can give a right direction to their lives in the global world.

The core vision of the Methodist Girls Degree College is, “To educate the girls for the betterment of society and to make the women empowerment through education.”

Mission
